By the amazingly talented Melissa Hanes. I first found her work in an issue of New American Paintings. View more of her work and read her artist statement at Caffe Vivaldi.

New Shoes! The lovely people at Marais USA assured me that all of their patent styles are completely vegan. So many pretty colors, including nude. I feel like I have been searching for the perfect nude flat for my entire adult life.

The spring line is available in May, and at $49-$59 a pair we can all afford to order one in every color.

Please remember to thank Marais USA (or any other designer) for using man-made materials. Let’s let designers know that the demand for cruety-free shoes is high.

Gretchen Ryan

I’ve read about this lovely artist a lot lately. Her oil paintings of pageant girls are beautiful and ethereal, in a slightly creepy sort of way. The Los Angeles based artist is also a vegan and big into animal rights, all the food at her recent New York opening was vegan.

Little Pretty: The Art of Gretchen Ryan is on view at Fred Torres Collaborations from April 3 – May 16th.
