Oh, how I wish I were a size 6. If you are, these would be a nice addition to your vegan shoe collection.

Sea Shepherd

Since I don’t have a television, I have yet to see Whale Wars, but I love Captain Paul Watson.

Speaking at the NYC release party for Karen Dawn’s book, “Thanking the Monkey: Rethinking the Way We Treat Animals,” Watson made two lovely statements:

“A vegan driving a hummer contributes less greenhouse gas emissions than a meat eater riding a bicycle.”

and

“You cannot be an environmentalist unless you are a vegetarian or vegan”

I love that one.  Can’t wait to use it on the next “environmentalist” who crosses my path.

Here is the clip from Access Hollywood

And if you get a chance, watch Whale Wars on Animal Planet let me know how it is.

More non-leather belts please.

2008.12.14

If you are at all interested in animals, animal rights, eating healthy or being happy (aren’t we all) you must get to know this woman.

Colleen Patrick-Goudreau is the founder and director of Compassionate Cooks, the Food for Thought podcast, and the Joyful Vegan.  Her websites and podcast provide an incredible amount of information and inspiration. She also teaches cooking classes, writes cookbooks and gives workshops and lectures.

I really can’t stress enough how great her podcast is. Find out for yourself on itunes or stream it from the widget at the top left of this page.

Animal Rights: The Abolitionist Approach

2008.12.09

I could read this website all day.  Professor Gary Francione takes an amazingly well-defined and consistent approach towards animal rights:

“The mission of this website is to provide a clear statement of a nonviolent approach to animal rights that (1) requires the abolition of animal exploitation; (2) is based only on sentience and no other cognitive characteristic, and (3) regards veganism as the moral baseline of the abolitionist approach.”

And I love that he admits to being a “harsh and relentless critic of animal welfare,” his arguments against animal welfare and for animal rights are pretty irrefutable.  Listening to his interviews and reading some of his work definitely solidified a few things in my mind.

Animal Rights: The Abolitionist Approach

This was the first interview of Gary’s I listened to:

I recommend.

The existence of these shoes makes me happy.

“We are committed to being 100% cruelty- free, producing functional goods, with a high standard of ethical social responsibility in animal and human rights.”

See the rest of the collection and read more of their philosophy.
